Here is an interesting animated video on the evolution of dogs.
Apparently all dogs have evolved from the wolf, I can see a similarity between the wolf and German Shepherd but a wolf and a Dachshund

May 23, 2026 3:28 PM PDTAwwww... this was great to watch. I have wondered at times how dogs became domesticated and knew through breeding is how we have so many different breeds of dogs now. I have three dogs. Their awesome in their own ways. Each dog I've had in my lifetime had distinct personalities even in the same breed.
Like you, not sure how a Dachshund came to be from a wolf, omg!

Or a Jack Russel, or a Pekingese, or a pug for that matter. Not had a dog as an adult but have been associated with a few, I do like Lab/Retrievers. Hopeless guard dogs but guess a burglar hears a bark and don't see the dog, if a burglar knew it was a Lab he'd rob he place anyway and play with the dog
May 27, 2026 4:25 PM PDTAll of those dogs are nice that you mentioned. We would love to have a large guard dog again someday. We had a wonderful Chow Chow, many years ago but he was too much of a guard dog. I would also fear for my dog's life, if my house was robbed.
Isn't there a video of a burglar robbing someone's stuff out of the garage and ended up petting the dog outside?
June 9, 2026 1:44 AM PDTYes, there is a video showing a burglar robbing a bike from a garage and playing with the dog whilst he does so.
Dog was a Lab or Retriever so that explains it. The breed is so intelligent so it is odd they are not effective guard dogs. German Shepherd is apparently a decent choice, very protective and excellent guard dogs.

We have the Thin Blue Line series which we love. We haven't watched it in a long time, but for fun, we're watching the series again. There was a German Shepard in one of the episodes. Good dog!!

We have the DVD series and it's hilarious. There was a seen with a German Shepard, but I don't recall the episode, however, it was in the first season. We're on the second season. There were only two seasons. Goody and Griff crack us up and of course Rowan Atkinson is just a riot with anything he does.
